Under the pseudonym Podington Bear, Chad Crouch carved out a unique path for his music career. Now working mostly under his own name, he continues to reinvent his approach to music and its monetization.
I was introduced to Chad Crouch in Portland, Oregon a few years ago and he graciously hosted a lovely dinner at his house with his family.
I was intrigued with what he was doing.
He was a prolific creator of playful instrumental music and was succeeding using a business model unlike any I'd heard of before.
His recording setup was very minimalist, taking place all at a small tidy desk off to the side in a large room.
(He was doing all of his music in a software program called Reason - not a typical choice for a composer.)
