The press statement was standard practice: a brief factual account of the finding, the verification process, and the implications for ongoing work. He had written seven of them in his career. This one had a sentence he could not finish.

The sentence was true. He had checked it against the data, against his knowledge of the field, against six years of experience with the first SCV, and it was accurate. The finding did not impair navigation. Physical constants remained constant. Predictive models continued to predict. Everyday life was unchanged. The sentence was true in every way he could measure.
He had deleted it eleven times and put it back eleven times. At 6:30 he sent the statement as written. He stood up.
