Lesson 02 of 30

WHAT YOU WERE TAUGHT

Family myths. Silent rules. Invisible scripts.

// opening

So much of what you believe about money didn't begin with you.

It began in glances. In how your parents fought, or didn't. In the tone that filled the room when the credit card bill arrived. In the things you noticed but no one ever named.

Money was always speaking, even when no one said a word.

// context

You may have been taught that asking is greedy. That spending is unsafe. That wanting more makes you selfish. That security is earned only through exhaustion.

Or maybe that it's rude to talk about money. That it disappears as quickly as it comes. That it's always either control or chaos.

These weren't malicious teachings. They were survival strategies passed down like heirlooms. But they may no longer serve you. You are allowed to choose what stays.

// practice

Reflect on what you absorbed, not just what was said.

What were the silent rules about money in your home?

What were you praised for? Scolded for?

How did your caregivers talk about people with money, or without it?

What role did you learn to play? The saver? The spender? The one who pretended not to notice?

Notice what comes up, not just in thoughts but in your body. You're not here to prove your past wrong. You're here to understand what it taught you, and to soften your grip on what no longer fits.

// close

You've carried their voices long enough.

Now is the time to listen for your own.
