Building Infrastructure That Sets You Free

Templates & Worksheets

Practical tools for building infrastructure that serves you

These templates support the work you've done in the course. Copy them, adapt them, use what works.

The Three Questions (Part 1)

Infrastructure Audit Template

For each system/tool/workflow, ask:

System: _________________________________

1. Does this make me more alive?
   □ Yes - creates space for spontaneity
   □ No - demands constant attention
   □ Unsure

2. When did I last use this without thinking about it?
   Last time: _________________________________
   □ Within a week (good)
   □ Within a month (okay)
   □ Can't remember (warning sign)

3. What would I lose if this disappeared tomorrow?
   Specific loss: _________________________________
   □ Actual need
   □ Imagined need
   □ Anxiety, not loss

Decision:
□ Keep (passes all three)
□ Simplify (serves purpose but too complex)
□ Delete (fails tests)

Time & Energy Audit (Part 1)

Weekly Time Tracking

Week of: _________________________________

Time spent on INFRASTRUCTURE:
  Organizing: _______ hours
  Maintaining: _______ hours
  Optimizing: _______ hours
  Total: _______ hours

Time spent on ACTUAL WORK:
  Creating: _______ hours
  Shipping: _______ hours
  Doing: _______ hours
  Total: _______ hours

Ratio: _______ infrastructure : _______ work

Goal: Infrastructure should be < 20% of total time

Energy Map

For each system, mark energy drain:

GREEN (disappears, no drain):
- _________________________________
- _________________________________
- _________________________________

YELLOW (occasional attention, some drain):
- _________________________________
- _________________________________
- _________________________________

RED (constantly on mind, significant drain):
- _________________________________
- _________________________________
- _________________________________

Action: Delete red, simplify yellow, keep green

Deletion Protocol (Part 2)

30-Day Test Tracker

System to test: _________________________________
Start date: _________________________________
End date: _________________________________

Week 1: Did I miss it? □ Yes □ No
  If yes, what specifically? _________________________________

Week 2: Did I miss it? □ Yes □ No
  If yes, what specifically? _________________________________

Week 3: Did I miss it? □ Yes □ No
  If yes, what specifically? _________________________________

Week 4: Did I miss it? □ Yes □ No
  If yes, what specifically? _________________________________

Final Decision:
□ Delete permanently (didn't miss it)
□ Keep simplified version (missed specific part)
□ Restore (genuinely needed)

Simplification Plan (Part 2)

System Simplification Template

Implementation: _________________________________

Right-Sized Stack Design (Part 3)

- _________________________________
- _________________________________

What "invisible" means for my work:
_________________________________

My values (rank importance):
□ Ownership
□ Simplicity
□ Reliability
□ Cost
□ Features

Tools that match my values:
1. _________________________________ (for: _________)
2. _________________________________ (for: _________)
3. _________________________________ (for: _________)

What I will NOT add:
- _________________________________
- _________________________________

Weekly Review (Part 4)

2. _________________________________ → Next action: _________
3. _________________________________ → Next action: _________

This week's priorities:
- _________________________________
- _________________________________

MINUTES 11-15: System check

How to Use These Templates

These aren't prescriptions. They're starting points.

Copy what's useful. Ignore what's not. Adapt to your context. Simplify even these templates if they're too complex.

The goal isn't perfect templates. It's infrastructure that serves you.

If using these templates becomes its own burden, delete them. You don't need them. You already know what to do.
